Our group was formed in 2002 by a group of keen, some say deluded, amateurs, most of whom have diabetes or care for someone with diabetes. Our only aim is to help others with the condition to improve their quality of life. We feel that often the key to good diabetic control is information and education, as well as moral support from others. With that in mind we started to hold monthly meetings. To our amazement we are still going and have a meeting at the Civic Centre in Wolverhampton on the second Saturday in the month from 10am until 12 noon. As well as a variety of guest speakers on diabetes related subjects we also have social meetings where we can chat to each other and exchange views, tips and experiences. Membership is free and we have interpreters at all our meetings. We decided to operate independently as we didn't want to be a drain on any Diabetes UK resources and as a result we have been able to apply for grants from the City Council and Local Diabetes Trust to help run the group. We are great SUPPORTERS of Diabetes UK and for those of us who have had Diabetes for many years it has been a lifeline for us and still is!! We have a lot of support from Peter Shorricks' team at the Walsall office for which we are very grateful.
